I have been finding new resources on a daily basis. One more week into my whole food plant-based journey and I still feel amazing. Have I told you that this is the easiest eating plan I have ever done? I’m pretty sure I have but I just had to say it again! All the resources that I have found make gathering information simple.
It’s been about 3 months since I started eating primarily whole food plant-based. I am still not completely there but I’m getting closer all the time. Honestly, I can see myself eating this way for the rest of my life. It must have been fate that I happened to see Dr. Gregor’s book How Not to Die in Books-A-Million!
Finding Whole Food Plant-Based Resouces
Since then I have scoured the internet for whole food plant-based resources. I was surprised to find that there are several places to find good information on how and why to go plant-based. So let’s start from the beginning.
Whole Food Plant-Based Resources on Facebook
The first place I looked was on Facebook. I put Dr. Gregor in the search bar and I was thrilled to find he has a Facebook page all about this WOE. It is called NutritionFacts.org. There is a wealth of information on this page! From articles to videos to recipes, it is all there for the taking. I really like the information I get from Dr. Gregor. He puts things in terms that I can understand. He doesn’t just tell you how to do something, he explains why you should do it.
I wanted to chat with other people about this WOE so I searched for groups devoted to whole food plant-based eating. Wow!!! I could not believe how many there were. I joined several but soon realized that a lot of them were not really what I was looking for. The majority of Facebook groups on this subject are comprised of people ranging from newbies like me to seasoned pros that have been eating this way for 20 – 30 years. Some all their lives! I have found that there are a limited few groups that are tolerant of newbies. I have seen quite a few groups where if you ask what they consider something you should know they ridicule you instead of just answering the question. Of course, I unfollowed those groups very quickly.
My Favorite Facebook Groups
I have learned a lot from both of these groups. The members are very nice and nonjudgemental. They are always posting recipes that make my mouth water! The information about this WOE flows freely as most of the members are excited to share what they know. The best part is the support you get from everyone there. Both are private groups that you must request to join.
Whole Food Plant-Based Websites
The top of my list is a website that pairs with one of my favorite Facebook groups! Clean Food Dirty Girl is the first place I go when I have a question because I can usually find the answer somewhere on this site. Molly Patrick is the woman behind all this wealth of information. She has put together a website that literally has everything. Just take a peek around and you will find guides, training, her blog and some amazing recipes. She even offers a weekly meal plan complete with a shopping list!!
I also like Forks over Knives Plant Based Primer: The Beginner’s Guide to Starting a Plant-Based Diet. This is another website that has everything you need and as you can tell by the title it is geared toward the newbie. Unlike the Clean Food Dirty Girl it is not a personal website. This one is more of a commercial site. You will find lots of information on this website.
My Favorite Books
I am kind of old school. With all the electronic information out there I still love holding a book in my hands and reading it. Curling up in my recliner with a good book is like heaven to me! I have already told you about the book that got me started on this journey: How Not to Die by Dr. Gregor and also his How Not to Die Cookbook. Since I discovered these two I have found a few more that I really like.
The Forks Over Knives Plan and WFPB 90 Day Challenge are also very good books. These are the type of books that I find myself referring back to quite often. I will pick up on of these books and absolutely lose myself for an hour or so.
I Could Go On Forever
There are so many places to look for information on whole food plant-based eating. I have talked about some great places to get information but this is just a drop in the bucket. Getting overwhelmed with too much information is easy so I am going to stop here.
I will have a new post about this WOE next week that will include a few of my favorite recipes. See you then!!
