After Phillip and I realized there was life after the little birdies leave the nest we found a whole world out there that we never knew existed. It seems that we are discovering new things to do all the time. Here are my top 5 things that I really love to do.
1. Take a Road Trip
This is something that you can do on the spur of the moment. That is why it is number 1 in my top 5 things to do. You wake up in the morning with no plans and the next thing you know you are in the car heading to parts unknown. We call these our little adventures. There are so many places to see. Just get on your computer and open google and type in “places to see near me” and I bet you will be shocked at what’s around you. Don’t over think it… just do it!
2. Go To a Casino
That’s right, I said it! I love going to casinos! I never went to one until the kids were gone but now we go pretty often. Find a couple that you really like and mostly go to them. Make sure you get a players card and use it. You will start getting what they call promos in the mail or through email. They will send you free nights in their hotels, free play, casino bucks and other things. We always take out the amount we are going to spend in cash before we leave and never, I repeat, never take out more. You can spend a weekend in a very nice hotel with free meals and entertainment galore for as much as you would spend for a night out on the town.
3. Start a New Hobby
My top 5 things to do just had to include hobbies. You know all those things that you always wanted to do but never had the time to do? Well, now you have the time! Phillip has always been crafty. He really enjoys spending time in the garage making things. One of his favorite things to do is turn pens. He turns wood and acrylic on a lathe and the finished product is just beautiful. These make wonderful gifts so he usually sells everything he makes. It’s always nice when the hobby you love can actually pay for itself!
I like taking pictures. Phillip recently bought me a new Nikon camera that takes the most amazing pictures. I have started taking some landscape type photos that I am putting on stock photo sites to see if I can make a little money while enjoying my hobby.
4. Go On a Date
So you’ve been married 20 plus years?! Go out and enjoy each other! Go to dinner and a movie, go to a concert or a night club. If you don’t know where to go just get on google and search “things to do in (your city)”. Try new things. Go to restaurants you’ve never heard of. Nothing is off limits! Dates don’t have to be at night either. You could meet for lunch during a work day… oh how scandalous!!
5. Take a Cooking Class
Do you like to cook? We love to experiment with cooking new things. We have taken a couple of classes and really enjoyed it. We had fun and learned a thing or two at the same time! Find a local restaurant or even a culinary school that offers couples cooking classes. Some have a date night type class where you are shown step by step how to prepare a particular meal. After you have finished preparing it you get to sit and enjoy it with a glass of wine.
