Hi! My name is Debbie aka Chick in an Empty Nest. Phillip is my husband and my best friend. I have two wonderful children, Cindy and David. For 28 years I had children in my home. Then one day I woke up and my home was an empty nest.
I had spent the better portion of my adult life caring for them, worrying about them, and making sure they had everything they needed. When they left I felt like my world had shifted on its axis and I was hanging on for dear life.
It took a little while for me to come to grips with what my new role in life was. Do you want to know what I figured out? I realized that I was more than just a mom in an empty nest! I am a wife to an amazing husband whom I had neglected for years while I raised my children. He patiently waited until I could give him my full attention and now that he has it, there is no stopping us!!
Having Fun Making Memories
Our goal in life now is having fun making memories for us. Sometimes this includes our children and sometimes it doesn’t. Our children and now their families are a very important part of our lives but the key word is “part”. We now realize that our children are not our whole world. We are much more than just mom and dad.
These days if I am not working you will more than likely find me playing with my best friend. It could be that we are on a spur of the moment road trip or a planned vacation. You might catch us trying out a new restaurant in town or even another state! We like to find new and interesting places to fly the drone, Phillip’s pride and joy. I like to combine these little excursions with my love of photography. I can’t even begin to describe the incredible photos and videos we have!
I am still trying to find my new normal in my empty nest. I have several little ventures going because retirement is coming up soon. This chick can not just sit around doing nothing!!!
Anyway, check out my website and see if you can relate to me & mine!
